Popular email and Instant Messaging provider Yahoo! has asked its IM users to update their software to the latest version, in light of a serious security flaw. According to the Yahoo! communique, if you are using a version of the All New Yahoo! Messenger obtained before March 13, 2007 on a Windows PC, you definitely must update to the latest version.
The bug was apparently identified in the ActiveX control which is part of the Yahoo! Messenger audio conferencing code. If you are still using your Yahoo! IM, be careful not to visit any weblinks that are posted on your IM, as this is a surefire way of getting impacted by the bug.
The safe version is available for download from here. But relax, don’t click on that link right away, because Yahoo! has made sure that if you are at risk, you will be prompted to update. So what was the point of this blog anyway? To make sure that you don’t ignore the Yahoo! prompt, of course!
